Adult Literacy Program:
One-on-one tutoring and small group instruction
- Open to all English-speaking Redwood City residents who read below the seventh grade level
- Student-centered approach
- Lessons designed to improve basic skills in reading, writing and critical thinking
- Families For Literacy (FFL) Program
Families For Literacy (FFL) Program :
one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction
- Open to all English-speaking, low-literate RCSD parents with at least one five year old or younger child
- Families are encouraged to attend monthly story hour at the library
- Each family youngster receives free books, chosen by the child
- Student-centered approach
Families In Partnership Program (FIPP):
one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction
- Open to all 1st through 8th grade students in the RCSD who are identified as "at-risk"
- After school, student-centered, youth dropout prevention program
- Parents meet with core teacher at least once
Small Group Program :

- Open to parents whose children attend school in Redwood City
- To improve reading, writing and critical thinking skills
- Student-centered approach
Kids In Partnership (KIP) Program:
One-on-one after school tutoring and small group instruction
- Fair Oaks Elementary School 1st through 3rd grade students are identified as "at-risk" by the School staff
- Tutors are Sequoia and Woodside High School students, each tutor receives volunteer service hours for trainings and tutoring sessions attended
- Student-centered instruction, dropout prevention and mentoring program
- Project READ administers a Bader Reading assessment to tutors and Fair Oaks students upon entry to program and reassessments every six months
- Intervention is targeted for both the teen tutors and elementary aged students
Family Literacy Instructional Center (FLIC)
drop-in tutoring and computer-assisted learning
- Open to all Project READ adults and children on a drop in basis
- Student centered approach to improving literacy and life skills
- Individualized literacy learning plans and after school tutoring
- Teen Tutor Training and Mentoring Program
- Computer-assisted learning including ESL and LD specific software
