Last weekend, we gathered in celebration of our incredible learners, tutors, and Project READ families at our annual BBQ & Awards Ceremony. Nearly 350 friends, families, and supporters came together for an afternoon filled with delicious food, storytelling, hands-on crafts, and joyful outdoor games. With the talented DJ Jose keeping spirits high, it was a true celebration of community and literacy in action.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of our Spirit of Project READ Awards, an honor given to individuals who embody the heart and mission of our program—and inspire those around them through their dedication and perseverance.
This year, we proudly recognized Idalia and Jocelyn, a remarkable mother-daughter learner duo whose commitment to family literacy is a powerful example of what’s possible when learning is rooted in love and determination. Their journey reflects not only their growth in literacy but also their strengthened educational foundation at home.
We also honored the tutoring pair Heather and Yaretzi, who have worked side-by-side throughout the year to achieve Yaretzi’s reading goals. Their weekly sessions have blossomed into a trusting and collaborative relationship—one where learning goes both ways and personal growth is mutual.
To all our learners, tutors, and families–congratulations on another year of hard work, progress, and community! Your resilience and commitment are the heartbeat of Project READ, and we are so proud of all you’ve accomplished.
We’re already looking forward to gathering again in 2026—until then, thank you for being part of the Project READ family.
