Child Tutoring

Support for Project READ doesn’t just change one life. It can change the trajectory of an entire family, fostering a self-confidence and love of learning that are passed from one generation to the next and strengthen not just an individual family but the entire Redwood City community.

Project READ is grant and locally funded, but also depends on support from generous donors like you to enable all the services our learners need. Donations to Project READ can be be made through our 501(c)(3) partner organization, Redwood City Friends of Literacy (RCFOL). 100% of funds donated to RCFOL go to Project READ.

Contributions to Redwood City Friends of Literacy are tax-deductible for income, gift, and estate taxes. Our EIN is 94-3133401.

Adult Tutoring

Your donation will help provide:

Tutoring materials for learners
A full library of books is essential to literacy tutoring, along with workbooks, art supplies and other materials.

Training for new volunteer tutors
Last year, Project READ trained over 150 new tutors, which requires materials and after-hours staff support.

Books for families to build home libraries
When parents and children read together at home, the benefits are immense. Last year, Project READ gave over 5,200 books to our learner families.

Learning specialist evaluations
Expert specialists help us create individualized plans for those with learning differences.

Food for families in need
Food insecurity is a major obstacle for many of our families. Project READ provides fresh produce, meat, and packaged goods to more than 140 families every week.

Eye exams and glasses
Poor eyesight can be a hidden obstacle to learning, and and many of our families don’t have the resources to address it. We also provide hearing exams for those who might need one but can't afford it.
