Dedicated to supporting Project READ Redwood City.
Redwood City Friends of Literacy is the 501(c)(3) partner organization to Project READ. 100% of funds donated to RCFOL go to Project READ.
Project READ fuels the fire of hope through literacy.
Named one of five “exemplary literacy programs” nationwide by the US Department of Education, Project READ has provided free literacy tutoring to Redwood City adults, children, and families since 1987.
In Project READ’s warm and inviting home in the Redwood City Public Library, volunteer tutors help learners develop the reading and writing skills so critical to unlocking their potential and pursuing their dreams.
Services include one-on-one and group literacy tutoring, English as a Second Language instruction, and innovative family literacy programs that involve all members of the family in the learning process, helping break the intergenerational cycle of low literacy.

Food insecurity presents a major obstacle to learning for many Project READ families. Through our partnership with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Project READ provides over 40,000 pounds of fresh produce, protein, dairy products, and packaged goods per year to the families in our learner community who are most in need.
