Volunteer

Just 1 to 2 hours a week can change someone’s life. And maybe yours, too.

Volunteer

There’s nothing like the feeling that comes from making a meaningful difference to another person — especially someone in your own community. Project READ volunteer tutors bring the "Each one, teach one" philosophy to life, building relationships that have a profound impact on both tutors and learners alike. We currently have a waiting list of adult and youth learners eager to get started, with our experienced and dedicated staff ready to guide you through every step of your tutoring experience.

Project READ makes it fun and easy to be a tutor. No experience required.

Training and orientation

A three-session training program (one session for teen tutors) will introduce you to Project READ and get you fully prepared to tutor.

Finding the right match

Prefer to work with adults or kids? A more advanced learner or a beginner? We make sure every tutor/learner pair is a great fit.

Flexible schedule

Tutors and learners set their own schedule and meet whenever it's convenient for both.

Expert guidance by our staff

We'll support you every step of the way, measure your learner’s improvement, and help you adjust as your learner progresses.

Easy-to-use materials

A variety of proven materials lets tutors hit the ground running and ensures a customized experience for every learner.

Big and inviting meeting space

Most tutoring takes place in our space in the Redwood City Library, with Project READ staff on hand to offer any help you need.
